About

Shorty’s Sutures originated in 2010 for an Etsy shop where I listed my crocheted accessories and other hand stitched creations that were available for sale.  You may be wondering how in the world I picked the name Shorty’s Sutures so allow me to give you a bit of history on the subject.

The name Shorty came from my original blog Securityville where, back in 2008 when I first started blogging, I was trying to remain anonymous. Sutures was added in 2010 to create the name for my Etsy shop. I wanted a name that would communicate various kinds of stitchery without sounding too much like shops and blogs that were already in existence. Throw in that I love the look of Jack Skellington and other sutured Tim Burton characters, and I thought I had the perfect representation of what my hand stitchery could be referred to.

My real name is Kelly Black, and I’ve been working to expand Shorty’s Sutures during 2011. I attended a fiber fest for the first time in April 2011, and have begun taking classes to learn new crochet techniques along with testing out new types of fiber with various challenging projects. My hope is that I can share what I’ve learned since 2010, along with what I continue to learn as I go along, to help introduce more stitch lovers to what’s out there to play with. I feel like I’ve only begun to scratch the surface and I must confess it really excites me. I truly love listening to designers, podcasters and other stitchers talk about what they are making and what they are using. I hope to add to the overall mix of things and help expand other minds as well.

I hope you’ll join me as I venture into new hand stitching endeavors! There’s a world of creativity out there to explore, so keep those hands stitching!
